Personally, I would just wait until the sims 3 is on at least 75% sale on steam and nab it and as much dlc as I can for a semi-reasonable price, because they are going to do the same thing with the sims 4, just on origin.

There may have been some confusion - I don't care how good The Sims 4 is. I know pretty well that it's going to be annoying as fuck to deal with bad pathing (I've implemented A* better than the shits at EA have,) construction commands and item placement being wonky, rogue AIs and all that jazz. I wanted to know if it had hypnosis items in the base game like previous titles did. I fapped to The Sims 3 (get at me, fuckers) because I was desperate without internet for a couple weeks and it had a hypnosis furniture piece that you could use to fuck around with other Sims. I'm curious to know if the new one does too, since I also remember there being hypnosis in the Makin' Magic xpac for the first game.

Oh well. My approach to Sims games in general is to just wait a year or two and "buy" everything at once. I guess I never really did do much aside from make deformed weirdos in 3 anyways, so now's as good a time as any to go back and make more deformed weirdos in 3. And then I'll make the chicks all act like chickens B)

*Also, "no open world" is really a plus for me. When I play Sims I become an 8 year old. I don't want to wait to load extra features. I want to type rosebud or motherlode and then make a hilarious dungeon that I trap my neighbors in and then fill it with balloons and alarm clocks and a fire alarm and the cheapest oven. That, in my mind, is the proper Sims experience, and having an open world just takes something away from that.

The game grumps started playing it. Does not appear that the AI is quite as intelligent as the advertisements make them out to be.
