Do You Guys Like Dubstep?
I really like this <<youtu.be/MdmIylqr9dw|song/video>>.

Going based on what I heard from the song, these are the lyrics:
I’m dirty when I turn of the lights
So maybe I’m you devil disguised
You bite my lip and then say goodbye
I'll miss when you gone
This phase of want
Plastic and paint
Come on and make me out
If you want to,
Without You here I’m not the same
Let go, let go, let go

I will control you
Now that I own you
I will control you
Now that I own you
I will control you
Now that I own you
I wanna- I wanna- I wanna, wanna live this lie

I will control you
Now that I own you
Pushing insanity feverishly
I will control you
Now that I own you
I wanna- I wanna- I wanna, wanna live this lie

Let go, let go, let go
I will control you
Now that I own you
I wanna- I wanna- I wanna, wanna live this lie

I- I- I need you
I- I hate when I'm alone
This phase of want
Plastic and paint
Come on and make me out
If you want to,
Without You here I’m not the same
Let go, let go, let go

I will control you
Now that I own you
Pushing insanity feverishly
I will control you
Now that I own you
I wanna- I wanna- I wanna, wanna live this lie

Let go, let go, let go
I will control you
Now that I own you
I wanna- I wanna- I wanna, wanna live this lie

What do you guys think?
I love listening to this song on repeat while I peruse this site.

Well, I usually use <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=2dPaVk4G1jg|this>> for the same purpose. Having a soundtrack for lots of activities is very fun.

I actually used to haaaate dubstep until playing <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUFmo9A3cZY|rhythm games>> changed that. :x

For MLG montage parodies, it happens a LOT that I listen to this.

Else, it depends. If it's "sick" with a lot of rythm, I can listen to, but when it's slow, monotonous, or too predictable, not at all.

I get how you feel. I like my dubstep pretty heavy and faaaaaaast. I definitely love a lot of drumstep because of this. Actually, I listen to different sub-variations of dubstep a lot more than the vanilla dubstep which usually sports >140BPM and low wobbles in the drop.

<<www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4LI9HUDyqU|You could always just do BPM increase on songs to make them faster.>> I've done that to a few songs that I felt were too slow for me to enjoy. I looooooove faaast

GOTTA GO FAASTTT

To me most dubstep represents the ultimate degeneration of the bassline; where punk music decided to just have the tonic of that measure's chord play repeatedly on 8th notes for the entire song, dubstep goes one further and uses modulation of the bass timbre/dynamics as an excuse to tend toward having one consistent note for as long as that chord is used.

For me music is mostly about the interesting progression of different notes through time, so genres that reduce that down to its most basic in order to focus on other aspects (dubstep, punk, metal) are mostly lost causes in my book.

Some things that get slotted into dubstep do a lot of notes, but they generally try too hard and make the bass sort of play double-duty as both melody and percussion, which doesn't really work that well. In most music, percussion mostly fills low frequencies and melodies mostly fill high frequencies, and I think it's because they really don't mix well in the same frequency band as far as human hearing is concerned.

Speaking of MLG videos one of the YouTube ads I just saw thanks to this thread started with "Mountain Dew and Doritos are teaming up with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare."
... you know actually dubstep doesnt seem so bad anymore by comparison why is my nose bleeding

I love listening to this kind of music while driving on the freeway.

I'm not exactly sure what counts as dubstep, but here are some things that sound like dubstep to me that I like.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pEWweProlQ (only starts around 3:14 and 4:56 and doesn't last very long)

www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSHW_iLXTac

Both of these do have some other melody running through the wubwubwub though.

Completely understandable. It's definitely not everyone's cup of tea and a lot of the genre certainly gets repetitive very quickly.

Definitely something I can agree with. Drumstep can have those kinds of songs where they just overdo percussion and wobbles to the point that there isn't even a melody to follow through the song. Instead, <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo1C6gjjkbk|it starts to feel like improv>> and it's something that I feel doesn't very well with the genre. The dubstep genres work much better when following a melody throughout the song while not taking lead.
But the thing is, that's pretty much what makes vanilla dubstep. :|

I'm gonna need a guide on all of the electro subgenres eventually. I'm really good with indie and hiphop...but the difference between drumstep and dubstep? Wha?

I know trance, gabber, happy hardcore etc, but otherwise it just seems so...so confusing @_@

Not that I end up caring. Anything that promotes rhythmic body movements such as dancing = sexy as hell.

In general, electronica subgenres refer to one basic song. I think it's evidence that either people who are most passionate about electronica don't recognize that different songs are supposed to sound like different songs or that it's just inevitable that electronica tends to sound samey and fans are in denial. If the same criteria were applied to other genres of music, then Chuck Berry wouldn't simply be Rock 'n' Roll; <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=75RiHJGfyUE|Maybellene>> and <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfD4Eo7cA0Y|You Can't Catch Me>> would be "Rock 'n' Drift", while <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOrMg3pY7hw|Roll Over Beethoven>>, <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFo8-JqzSCM|Johnny B. Goode>>, and maybe <<www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PKW9683RzU|Carol>> would be "Rock 'n' Sweep". Chuck Berry basically recorded 3-5 good songs, repeatedly, and I enjoy (and own) each incarnation of them, but I'm under no illusions that he dabbled in different subgenres just because he made more than one general song structure.

Yeah, I didn't know what dubstep was until I discoverd Only Afro and Snipars on youtube. Dubstep seems to have become this thing for people to pretend to like as a means of making fun of people. Or maybe it's an excuse to just listen to it "ironically."

Pretty sure the joke is that dubstep is a sort of "mainstream" (as well as somewhat corporate in a sense?) techno genre. :P
