And they're probably just cosmetic. At the very least, it's unlikely they're actually very useful. They're not going to withhold some powerful item from non-backers. With AAA devs finding new ways to fuck over customers everyday, we need to support indie developers more than ever. That's not to say indie devs should be immune from criticism, but we need to consider what's worth fighting about. Backer-exclusive content is a thing for all Kickstarters, and it makes sense. Those that help fund a project should get a little something extra. Compare that to, say, Mighty No. 9 where they already announced day 1 DLC, not to mention all sorts of multimedia deals before the game was ever out, and asking for more and more money even after the game is funded.
Preorder culture, console exclusive content, and day 1 DLC all suck and need to stop, but pirating a game made by a developer who's trying to break away from and simultaneously prove a point to the AAA industry is kind of counter-productive.
But we don't know that it's only cosmetic. And, let me give you the same hypothetical example that I gave to my friend who argued this same thing against me.
Let's say you are a speedrunner. You may not be, but let's say you are. You love to competitively play through games as fast as possible. You want to play this game badly, but sadly, you missed the chance to back it. "But that's okay!" you say to yourself, "This backer-exclusive content probably won't really matter in the long run!"
And the game comes out, and for a while, it seems that is true. The backer-exclusive weapon and armor are pretty much useless. They have some silly gimmicky effect that doesn't seem to be worth using outside the first 5 minutes of the game.
You, Mr. professional speedrunner guy, manages to make a world record speedrun within the first month of the game, and you keep that spot, due to your superior gaming skill.
But then one day, somebody notices a trick. Let's say that, when you pair this backer-exclusive weapon with a particular spell, it becomes hilariously broken. You can phase through walls! You can kill strong enemies in one hit! Now speedrun times for this game have been cut in a quarter. You are no longer the top of the charts. "But that's okay!" you say, "I can just start using that-" and then you stop mid-sentence. You realize, no, no you can't. You can't use it at all. Because you didn't back the game. Now you, who prides themselves as the best speedrunner of all time, can no longer compete in speedrunning competitions in this game.
So, while this may not be - and probably will not be the case - it still sets a bad precedent. It's about the principal of the thing. Even if the weapon and armor are completely and totally useless, this may pave the way for other companies (or even the same company) to do worse in the future, to where backers DO get something that completely turns the balance of the game on it's ass.
I already do not support the present in which paid DLC exists in any form, and I certainly will not be supporting something like this, which could very well turn into something very bad in the future.

Im pretty sure its a sin to pirate an indie game when all they want is to give fans what they want, or in some cases deserve. Even worse when it's made by the man who made symphony of the night,
Nonsense. While I'm sure that most developers would love nothing more than to provide an enjoyable gaming experience, they are ALWAYS also in it for the money too. They will do whatever they have to in order to ensure more people buy their game, even if they have to betray their fans to do so. Being an indie developer does not instantly make them a saint.
Plus there's the fact that a whole shitload of indie developers have recently been revealed to be lying, scamming, colluding and censor-happy SJWs. It'll be a cold day in hell before I pay for any of those people's games (to be fair, most of these people make garbage games anyway).

No if this was NeoGAF we'd be saying how Nintendo is doomed every 2 seconds
No, if this was NeoGAF, we wouldn't have hypnosis-related content on this website because "HYPNOSIS IS RAPE, SHITLORDS! NO DISCUSSION OF HYPNORAPE WILL BE PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE!"
