So I don't know anything about how the card game is played, I just came across this monster and thought 'I need that to wreck me'. Based on the ability description on the card I imagine it as a color out of space or scarlet rot type of eldritch being that slowly transforms all life around it into its own domain/ecosystem.
The girl is a scientist who came to research the rapid and strange evolution of this forest only to get a first hand experience of the process. The transformation into the overlord's minion is very pleasurable.

Tbf, they have barely spoiled anything from the set this is going to be in. There's no real explanation of the card in the world so far that has been revealed, but I wouldn't be surprised if you were right on the money with that one.
