The original text played a lot on the word 'gaman', a concept with so many different meanings and connotations that people write philosophy books on it.
On one hand, I'd need to write a book myself to carry all that across into English... On the other, there are hundreds of different ways you could have translated this and still be technically correct, which is honestly a huge relief - I just picked some I liked and went with it.
