Heart is its own separate tag, and is an implication of heart_eyes, so the system tagged it automatically. The tag without the eyes is usually used for love and floating hearts and whatnot from what I've found :P

makes sense, but sometimes I think certain self evident things don't need an extra tag - someone looking for floating hearts may not want heart eyes, and I hardly think we need symbol_in_eyes if we already have heart eyes

I think symbol_in_eyes covers a lot of material heart_eyes doesn't, due to star eyes and a multitude of others. We gave heart_eyes its own tag due to about half of the eye symbols being hearts, but we do get a bunch of other symbols. I wish we had more star eyes, personally :P
I can see what you mean, but I think in general the idea of the heart tag is for someone looking for love-based hypnosis/love spells, so they might not mind heart_eyes being included in that lol. Really I think it just comes down to "tag what you see".
They should teach elementary set theory in high school; it's at least as relevant to most people as calculus. Maybe I should write a wiki page with search tips.

I think the main problem here is that most people probably don't know that you can put a - in front of a tag to exclude it from the search. It's a feature I keep forgetting exists, at any rate.
