...how crafty is the one being restrained? Proscribing actions piecemeal instead of making her not want to escape seems like it's going to end poorly, especially if the sub has the ability to tear or yank.

Oh, Ubel's a crafty one. But she's specifically a danger to Sense because her unique magic is the ability to cut anything she *believes* she can cut. And because Sense's magic is prehensile hair...doesn't matter if that hair's enchanted to be sharper and harder than steel, it's hair, Ubel can cut it.
Theoretically, hypnotising her to not believe hair can be cut would work...
...buuuuuuuuut if she seriously wanted out, she totally could just then decide to...cut Sense.
