The question now is... Is that doll particularly clever for finding a way to become human, or is that human particularly dumb for walking into the programming booth simply because a doll told her it was safe?

A little bit imo. The doll had to be smart to figure out how the machine worked and devise a plan to escape. And the human had to be incredibly dumb to willingly walk into a programming booth and give the doll the one thing she needed to steal her identity

i've always preferred giving the carrot as opposed to the stick when it comes to these things
