is tv tropes too harsh
So I was kicked out of the tv tropes forums unfairly I love the site but sometimes its rules seem incredibly harsh. I created this thread for anyone who wants to complain about it.

Yes. At some point the management got overrun by crazy SJWs and started to ban wrongthink from their forums. They deleted a ton of series articles too because the series in question were "problematic", like Kodomo no Jikan.

TV Tropes is weird sometimes. They can be so delete happy it's almost kind of funny. And some tropes you have to jump through a series of hoops to get a post in there, like anything in regards to the Complete Monster trope (I had example that I thought fit perfectly but apparently, the character wasn't "evil enough", which in my eyes was complete horseshit). I'm also not a massive fan of their current policy in regards to spoilers, but I've become use to it and it is a nice way for me to stay away from the page.

my story: I was on the rwby forum posting a multi post prediction of what would happen in volume 4. I was told multiple to use the fanfiction thread but like an idiot i continued to use the main thread and was rightfully susppended. i got posting rights back and everything was ok... for a few days. Just today, I made a post, a single post about the fate of a certain character in the show and I was suspended yet again. When I tried to appeal they said there was no way back in. When I tried to defend myself, they banned me from the appeal thread. the kicker is that I didn't get an email warning telling me not to do it again they just suspended me without warning. Again I like the site but the suspensionsystem needs to be retooled

I actually got banned from a forum earlier this week and it was such BS. I was in a private group message with some of my friends, and some asshole moderator actually hijacks my friends account, goes in the group message on said account, and shares my personal information with everyone before banning us.

TvTropes is actually really tame nowadays compared to a few years. I still think it's an awful site, but I doubt it's that difficult to get kicked, especially if mods are power tripping.

It was just a forum for a dumb video game. It doesn't matter anymore anyways, my group moved to a new forum.

In a nutshell, they decided they couldn't survive without Google ad money, or with the thought of people making fun of them (see plsignore's link), so they started feeling ashamed of themselves (and a chunk of the userbase) and purging anything that'd make them look less than well-adjusted.

TV Tropes used to be fascinating to me, specifically because it was such an open-minded place. When I first discovered it, you could express a view, no matter how weird, and get an honest discussion going with the benefit of the doubt in play. Today there are too many eggshells to walk over to bring anything remotely deviant into the discussion. Still kind of pisses me off that they basically got bullied and came around to their attackers' side.

Hilariously, Monster Musume remains a symbol for me of how far TVTropes had fallen. Back in the olden days there were a lot of references to the Monster Girl Quest on the site. Then the great porn ban occurred. That was understandable. Gotta pay bills, I get that. But they for some reason I cannot fathom decided to redirect all MGQ references to MM and didn't listen to anyone's protest that those aren't even close to the same thing. It's like redirecting all Star Wars links to Star Trek.

As person who only slightly heard about Star Trek and love Star wars, I understand what you mean.

Holy shit, that's really bad. Haven't checked the site in ages but always loved to do some browsing there. This really sucks and is extremely immature, considering how much (and explicit) sex there is in pretty much any medium today. Keeping 50 Shades of Grey and Banning MGQ is as ironic and sad as it gets.
