Watched "How to be Single" last night (the best option out of 5 channels of HBO, go figure).
It wasn't as much of a comedy as the commercials let on (with the fat British woman playing like a raunchier version of the stock Jessie McCarthy role), she anchored it with a lot of humor from being a complete bore, but most of it was just sort of a melancholy about being an upper class 20-something in New York. It seemed like it was self-aware about that, since they often referred to similar works (Friends, Bridget Jones, Sex and the City), but it didn't get far enough away that you could really sympathize with the struggles of these beautiful people affording expensive-ass Manhattan apartments, especially since the main characters' struggle is "i don't know how to NOT be in a relationship!" which, for a guy like me who's never had one, is a bit of a headscratcher.
You have HBO? Would you mind if I made a suggestion or two?

Pretty much. Still glad I saw it though.
Yeah, especially considering how badly its doing at the box office. But hey, the screening I went to was pretty nice. Cheap but really high quality in terms of presentation. Seats and the amount of trailers left to be desired tho but what can ya do?
Next up for my theater viewing will be La La Land and Patriots Day. And fingers crossed Silence plays around me soon!
