Just watched Your Name for the first time. I liked it, but I'm starting to worry I'm officially Too Jaded For This Shit

Also because the universe is funny, Pacific Rim, a movie I thought of to some degree while watching Your Name, was on TV today.

Honestly, one of my favorite films of the decade: A complete and unexpected surprise for me when I first saw it in cinemas. Wound up topping my 2017 list.

I think my problem is the punches Shinkai was trying to land in Act V (I feel this is more of a 5-act story structure) didn't land for me. When Marnie Was There ran over many of the same beats and I was sobbing by the end, so I don't know what the issue was other than my age and experience.

Maybe another part of it is that the first few acts very much felt like an anime that was a movie rather than a movie that was anime. At least once I wondered how this would've worked as a 300 minute story (aka 12 episodes) vs a 100 minute one.

Another part of it was that even though I am the most cishet white dude to ever cishet, but I couldn't help but think that in an alternate universe, this would've been a really good work of transgender fiction.

That being said, I almost got the novel at Kinokuniya just because, but shit I can't read.

this is only kind of a movie, but i just watched through all 5 episodes of The Shivering Truth that i hadn’t watched yet plus the pilot. it was great and one of the most challenging pieces of media i’ve seen in a while. definitely check it out if you’re into cosmic horror and don't mind maybe getting a little fucked up

Saw Ad Astra yesterday and the puns of calling it "Sad Astra" were not off base; Had issues with how minimal development was given to the world building and side characters but Pitt was fantastic and it ultimately hits emotionally in the final act.

Also watched John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum with my girlfriend for the first time and we had a complete blast from start to finish. It's easily the best one yet and I can't wait to see more.

Saw Promare over the weekend. If you're a fan of Trigger's style then I'd definitely recommend it. It's mostly a turn off your brain and just enjoy the animation type of movie, but that montage in the beginning where we like, see the suggestion of massive societal breakdown and apocalypse was actually really well done, I thought.

Anyway, if I don't start seeing a shit ton of Lio pics in the near future then I am going to be very surprised.

Just saw Rambo Last Blood. Better than i expected, solid 8 out of 10 (I was thinking it would be a 6 tops) An above average story, decent acting, and enough action to keep you happy (Or laughing if your a sick fuck such as myself, god, the Claymores have me giggling any time i see 'em in movies)

So I saw Joker.

While it does have some issues, it's absolutely one of the best movies I've seen in recent memory. In fact, I loved it.

There are only 3 movies I'd ever given a 10/10 before. Now there are 4.

Go see it. Seriously.

Watched The Beach Bum last night. Super funny and chill movie! Wish that the second act wasn't so baggy in comparison to the first and third acts but there's fun to be had none the less in the adventures of Moondog.

Also, there's a scene where Martin Lawrence goes looking for dolphins that must be seen to be believed.

Hey, guys. What do you think about the Joker in the performance of Joaquin Phoenix? I need to write an article about it. The task of journalism. But to be honest, it's hard enough to make out his game. I understand that he played cool, but so to write about it the whole article. It's hard.
I even found a service where you can buy article online.
Here's their website - edusson.com/buy-article . Has anyone worked with these services? Tell me please, as me better to do.

The Lighthouse is the best movie I've seen this year so far. Hunt for a theater playing this, it's AWESOME.

that one shot of dafoe clutching pattinson while the light beams from his eyes into pattinson's is kind of burned into my mind

Parasite: also great but not as good. the commentary on the class struggle and cycle was surprisingly tasteful for a movie made in the time we live in currently, but i didnt find it to be incredibly deep, just engaging and well-crafted. although i do think the birthday sequence could have been significantly better and thematically pertinent, and it would have given it more of an oomph.

not a movie but: the Hazbin Hotel pilot: it was AWESOME!!!! totally delivered! ive seen it twice already!

Terminator: Dark Fate. 7/10

A good reboot/sequel and far better than the last 3 films, which this ignores. It really felt like a T2 sequel, in terms of the look and direction/production.
