Currently watching "The Man in The Grey Flannel Suit." 30 or so minutes in and it's 50'S AS FUCK. Atomic Family, Brookyln Dodgers, WWII and PTSD...pretty sad...being a drama, and it's about a workin' man who's trying to find a good paying job... Guess I'll find out more as I watch.

I just saw Memento. It's from around y2k, and features a damn good cast. The idea is that a guy develops short term memory loss after his wife is r*ped and murdered, and he's injured in the process. He's seeking revenge, but can't form new memories despite having all his old ones. The movie works from the outside in, you see the end at the beginning (not a spoiler, actually), but unravel things as the movie goes on.

Through the movie, people manipulate the main character, knowing how vulnerable and paranoid he is, and there are some scenes that, if not for the dark and dismal context, would be VERY fitting for a hypno-play scene. I mean, infinite inability to remember things? Infinite opportunity to mess with your subject! Hehehe >.>

But the movie is dark, and very noir style. It's a solid mystery with a twist that was certainly shocking for its time. It drags a bit at times, and the progression is annoying; the movie plays a scene, then shows a flashback, then shows what led to both the scene you saw, and the flashback. It works both forward and backward simultaneously, to eventually give you *almost* all the details. At the end, you're left to decide for yourself what the truth is. It's almost completely clear, but there's still things left out or inferred, that aren't explicit, so there's extra details you're never sure of as the viewer.

Overall, I liked it a lot, and I'd put it in a box with Mulholland Drive, Pulp Fiction, and Fight Club, as the film style and theme are similar, but for varying reasons. Worth a watch if you're willing to sit through it.

Ooh, if you like Nolan's psychological thriller style, I heavily recommend 2002's Insomnia. It's a great movie and a rare worthy remake (with the original Norwegian film apparently also being good, but I haven't seen it). The actors are all just incredible in that one. Robin Williams, in a rare villainous role, is both incredibly hateable and quite charismatic.

Plus, it's one of the few movies that actually has insomnia as a plot point, and I really wish there were more of those. It's a concept that seems so apt for drama.

That sounds like a solid recommendation. I'll have to check that one out!

"You and I share a secret. We know how easy it is to kill someone. That ultimate taboo. It doesn't exist outside our own minds."

This a line he says in the movie and it comes after a very long + graphic description he gives to Pacino's character.

So the Miraculous Ladybug "movie" just happened. (It was 65 minutes non-stop, hence the finger quotes) It's basically a double-length episode but set in New York, so everyone who grew up with Digimon and/or Gargoyles can catch that vibe again. Also, it's nothing particularly different about the show so you get all of the good and all of the bad--although Kagami isn't vital to the movie, which is an improvement on how she was use in all of Season 3--as well as some very on-the-nose DC Comics references.

Also, trans First Nations heroes are part of the canon now?????????

It was OK. Not the amazing film many said it was when it was released. Entertaining enough though.

So normally I prefer watching Anime series instead of movies (obviously not counting movies tied into series). But tonight I watched my second standalone anime movie.

Weathering with You.

God. Damn. That was a fantastic movie. A little slow to start, but it kind of needs to be. 8.5/10. Would absolutely watch again.
