If I knew how to and could add themes to the site, I could gladly do so. Alas, that is currently not a possibility.
But...

That said, if we can't do it ourself or find a mod to the Booru engine to make it work, a Greasemonkey script should allow you to manipulate the CSS to switch the theme. It's a fun and relatively easy coding exercise. I know at least some versions of Firefox support overruling the theme, as well. Dunno how that works, though; I main Chrome.
This sounds interesting. If nothing else, I could consider looking into doing something with that should I find the time.

But on topic I love the color scheme I'm pretty sensitive to bright lights and colors so this is easy on my eyes.

I think the dark theme is better because it's easier on the eyes when I'm browsing at night and all the lights are off.
The color scheme was indeed designed with late-browsing and eye strain in mind. And also energy efficiency, as Nightington pointed out. I'm glad it's working as intended.
While our color scheme is heavily based on the default theme of the software, it's slightly edited: the background is
slightly brighter as opposed to black and the text is an off-white rather than a white, reducing the contrast between the colors' brightness and thus making it less stressful on the eyes. There's a few other differences, too, but those are the main two.
