I wish someone would retranslate the games so they're actually accurate.
IIRC, the Japanese DS versions of 1-3, at least, had high-accuracy translations.
From what I recall, the director actually does not like those, though, because the vastest majority of puns - which are the heart of the game's humor in Japan, too - simply don't translate. The Japanifornia vibe developed as a result of trying to capture the game's tone tightly, and then just kind of... Continued to be consistent with himself, because by that point it was funnier that way.
This is also why the fan-translation of Ace Attorney Investigations 2 is filled with original puns - the goal was to make an accurate sequel to Ace Attorney Investigations 1, not a translation of Gyakuten Kenji 2.

My favorite game series of all time.
They need to translate Ace Attorney Investigations 2 and the newest one! Love the games so much really.
AAI2, sadly, we're gonna be stuck with the fan translation unless/until Capcom does a remake; the cost of cartridges to get a moderate-print game going for the original DS just isn't profitable enough to work out, thus why the newer releases have been Digital Only.
On the bright side, Ace Attorney 6 has been
confirmed coming to the US (though, yeah, digital-only). The other in-progress one (which takes place in Meiji-era Japan / Victorian England) is confirmed to be a long-shot, though, for a few different reasons. It's likely it will get a fan translation soon enough.
Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton may actually be my favorite entry in the series... But it's also the one with the most obvious squandered potential, given that one of the ad points was "this time, even the puzzles have contradictions!" - which happens
once (and not in a particularly interesting way at that).
