Most of them do, I think. But in Dota's case, its been several years of porting heroes from the original to save them from the horror of new ideas.

This is the primary reason that I play mostly fighting games for my competitive itch. No one to blame but yourself, and I take losses fairly easily. Plus games require 2-4 minutes of intense focus, as opposed to 30-45. I do not have that kind of attention span.
Speaking of fighting games, new King of Fighters released, and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's certainly not a looker but it made huge strides since the one trailer I saw before release and the game plays fantastically. I'm still not huge for King of Fighters as a whole (I'm a BB+GG guy) but I do love SNK getting back into video games. Here's hoping for more from them.
