Riot IM chat?
I wonder if anyone is interested into have a fully featured chat system that works on web (like Discord, minus company policies and anyone can own its private server; plus is open source).
Similar to irc it's not required registration and anyone can host a server, but unlikely irc:
- server are federated (so hypnohub domain itself could host a sever: and everyone would be still able to contact everyone inside/outside: with irc you need to keep multiple irc.server open across all your friends)
- you can upload images/video and have preview in both web and Android/iOS app
- voice and video calls (web and app)
is someone want to test it out; I've made a generic hypno channel:
riot.im/app/#/room/#hypno:matrix.org
the "riot.im/app/#/room/" in the url is just for the web app, if you're on the app (web/android or iOS) already you just need #hypno:matrix.org
matrix.org federated server already integrate some irc server, unlucky eris server are not yet on list; otherwise from the same app you could even join hypnohub irc channel with something like: #EFnet_#hypnohub:matrix.org
I've made a dummy #hypnohub channel on freenode just for those who want to test it out:
riot.im/app/#/room/#freenode_#hypnohub:matrix.org
webchat interface for freenode is: webchat.freenode.net/
You can join that irc channel from irc (text, file exchange and whatever irc does, as usual) *and* video/voice chat with those who are connected through riot (file upload will stored on matrix.org server). Anyway when in irc you see someone with "[m]" at their nickname tail; they are mostly probably using riot-matrix already :)
