I believe this is the style from the relatively new and lackluster "DC Super Hero Girls" TV series, in which the popular heroines and villainesses are now teenagers attending a high school for super heroes

That was pretty much dead on arrival. This was to launch a whole bunch of Barbie style licensed stuff for girls.
