Since we already have a thread for Pokémon X and Y I'm not really seeing much wrong with making another thread devoted to a single video game. I recently got Final Fantasy 14 for X-mas and I'm almost clueless as to what do in the game. (It's almost as over stimulating as real life. @_@) It doesn't help that I can't seem to make many friends.

Right now I'm on level 5. The avatar I'm using is called Ghelinien Transire. She's of the Hyur race and has light skin and short dark green hair with light green highlights. She's still in the starter's garb because I'm having trouble earning gil. I took Vanndril's suggestion and started in the Diabolos world.

If anyone from here is playing the game, it would be great if we could just meet up and kill stuff (questing and the like).

It takes some getting used to, like most MMOs, but even more so than your average MMO due to the fact that they did a few unique things, here. Just take it slow. If you try to take it in all at once you'll quickly become overwhelmed. Familiarize yourself with the User Interface, first off. Just learn to navigate the menus, even if you don't know what half the windows do or mean. The game does what I feel to be an excellent job introducing you to the game world. By the end of the introduction, you should understand the very basics of questing.

Do yourself a favor and read everything NPCs say. Often times they'll explain game mechanics or something as a sort of aside to the actual words they say, so you'll miss out on a lot of stuff if you just skip through. Besides, half the fun of FFXIV is the dialogue.

Hopefully I'll see you on sometime tomorrow so I can ease your transition into the gameplay and mechanics of this admittedly confusing MMO.


Don't sweat it. I didn't spend any gil on anything until level 25 or so. You don't really need to until later levels, so long as you do the quests around you that give gear.


I think it would be awesome to make a Free Company (Guild), myself. Maybe if some other folks from here (or others that I know from other MMOs/IRL) join up on the Diabolos server, we can found one.

is final fantasy 14 on ps3 also? I know it's on Ps4 (which I don't have).

I might be willing to try it out. I sort of dropped off the final fantasy fandom after 12 but this one looks interesting.

Also, if it is on ps3, is there a subscription fee involved? I know online play on ps3 is more or less free, but there are some exceptions.

I play mine on the PS3 and so far I've yet to face any subscription fee. It'd be cool if you got on, Sol. Just be warned the instillation and set up process takes almost half a day. >_<

My BF plays it on PS3 and I play it on PC, both work well, and both carry the usual $15 a month subscription fee. You get the first month free with the game and I believe there are some discounted subscription models available as well.

Yep, it is for the PS3 as well, and there is a subscription fee, as aforementioned by Chaytel. I hope you're prepared to pay a subscription, Lilly. :P


I doubt it'd really be an obvious hypno theme, though. It would just happen to be the place where our fellow users gather in-game, if it were to be made. Hell, I'd be happy just to have the community here that plays all be on the same server, if not the same Free Company.

If, by slim chance, we do get a bunch of people from here to all join on the same server and Free Company, it's important to note that I'm not much of a PvEer, so I wouldn't go leading raids or anything like that - someone else would have to take up that responsibility if they wanted it.

Of course, that's all just a far off dream, at this point.
