I said ok, because this is exactly up my wheelhouse (and I also like writing and am so rarely paid to do it). So, I worked on the pic, giving Francy updates as it developed. Francy seemed to be happy with the developments.
Now, a thing I should note: I usually ask for commission payments once I finish the pic. I admit, I was always worried that this would invite people to just skip out on paying, but thankfully that really hadn't happened.
Until this pic.
I sent Francy the finished pic, and they seemed happy with it. I asked for their email so I could send them the bill. There was no response and, oddly enough, their Tumblr can't receive messages anymore.
Now, I should note this happened about a week ago. I waited that long mainly because I wanted to be sure that they wouldn't pay, and that this isn't some big misunderstanding. Weirder shit has happened.
Their Tumblr still doesn't receive messages, and I've gotten no messages from other accounts claiming to be Francy or anything.
I'm posting the full pic with caption on my Patreon (www.patreon.com/theheckle), simply to try and make some money off of it in a way. I do hope you like it.
And Francophiletecnophile, if you're reading this, I have one thing to say:
You're a real fucking cheapskate.

As far as I understand it this something almost all artists go through eventually, if it serves as any consolation at all (probably not).

Oof, that sucks so much Heckle. I think you taking money only on the finished product is very nice of you but maybe you should consider doing 50% on start and 50% on completion to avoid this exact thing.

I would do that, except for two reasons. First, I ask for payment once I finish to make sure I do the work. I'm a lazy person by nature, and I don't want people to give me money only for me to do nothing. That'd just be mean.
The second involve Paypal. Paypal's decided that when I get paid, they'll take a decent cut of the money and hold it on the side because...well, I actually have no idea why. Having the payment split up only means Paypal's taking a bigger cut.
Thanks for the advice though, and thanks for the consolation. I appreciate it.

True! I hadn't considered the way you'd work and the paypal fees, those can probably eventually add up to more than what you lost with a deadbeat commissioner so it makes sense.
Anytime.

Well thank you for sharing this, I still don´t take commisions but it is good to be prepared for stuff like this.
