I think you could use that empty space to your benefit. Larger text, but narrower paragraphs. You can easily for 2 columns on each side of the image. But yes, definitely avoid similar colors between text about background. There's a reason the default colors in any word document are black text on white background.
Right after reading "Suddenly the lights are lowered from bright pink to a darker one," my phone's night light turned on, darkening the screen slightly with a blue-light filter, darkening the pink! XD LMAO Perfect timing!
