I never got too far into Zvezda. I might have to give that another watch.

And since I'm a whore for Nanana's Buried Treasure, I'll bring up the existence of a brief MC scene in the end of episode 3 where a cute trap maid gets commanded to sleep.

Now I will wait for some canon Love Live hypnosis...

Guys, guys, they're re-dubbing Sailor Moon! Unedited this time! All that hypnosis is coming back with new voices. Plus a few hypno scenes that never got English-ified. :D

Didn't they also license the new summer series too? Or did I totally misread a news report that I'm too lazy to go recheck.

Yes they did.

I'd rather they just released a subbed edition.

I only very briefly watched Sailor Moon back in the day (it came on after I left for school and I only saw it when my mom forgot to turn off the tape recording Pokemon, since SM aired right after), but I enjoyed what I saw, even though it had a terrible dub.

But I'm fairly unaware of anything in SM. I only saw maybe 15-20 episodes total. Had no idea it had MC scenes in it, so please don't post unmarked spoilers for them in here :(

But I'm really excited for the new one. I hear that it's a remake, so I'm really excited.

Until then, I'll get my Magical Girl fix via Precure.

Which by the way.... Precure has the occasional MC in it...

(The following links contain MAJOR SPOILERS)

This episode of Yes! Precure 5: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNfI8XuIlaA
^ The MC is progressive across the whole episode.

Hm... Having trouble finding any links to the others. I know there's some MC scenes in Smile Precure and Futari wa Precure. Heck, most of the Precure series employ MC at least once, even if briefly. Though I haven't seen all of them...

The new releases will have subs, of course. Dub-only releases are mostly gone except for kid's shows. But, if you just want to see subbed versions, there's about a million places to see them. The re-dubbing is definitely the most exciting thing about this release (and it sounds like it may be getting a real union dub).

You must have watched the only 15-20 episodes with no MC in them, lol. It seemed like every other episode of that show had someone being hypnotized.

Well then I'm excited for it XD
But I think the old subs are probably not very good. They're old tape subs aren't they? I just hope these new subs don't Americanize crap. If they don't have proper name order and honorifics then I'm not interested.

lol. Not even the dub is being Americanized in this (unless you count putting names in Western order, as is per usual). No more "Serena"; it'll be Usagi this time around.

As for subs, I couldn't tell you how they handle name order and honorifics (I could check the anime I have, but I really don't care), but I don't see why they'd change them. Especially since the point of the subs is to sate the people who want the original script and all that. That said, not having honorifics (which are almost never important) and Eastern name order (which is never important at all), are pretty silly reasons to skip on something you're otherwise interested in.

Nope, I'm a purist. No honorifics and western name order = bad subs.

How do you handle Japanese terms that can't be directly translated to English and can have multiple different definitions even in the context in which they're used? :P

They aren't good subs unless they cover the entire screen with translator's notes! PURISM! :P

It depends. For example food should always be left in Japanese if there is no proper western equivalent.

Word puns should be translated into English unless they are a vital element somehow.

Names and titles should always be left in Japanese. Well, 99% of the time anyway.

But like... there is no reason to not translate things like Nakama when appropriate English terms exist.

If the translators note is longer than 1 line, then the translator isn't very good. If something has to be explained as a note in order for the line to not sound ridiculous and/or be wildly inaccurate from the original dialog, then so be it.

They're gonna be streaming the first 4 episodes of the original series this Monday, with 2 more episodes every week.

I'm totally gonna watch it.

If you guys liked Sailor Moon, you will probably like Precure. I'd recommend starting with either HeartCatch Precure or the new one, HappinessCharge Precure.
