Also, I don't think you should really blame the translators for the slip-up, because the badge names aren't translations. The Kanto badges in Japanese are all named after colors. So, the Soul Badge is called the Pink Badge, and the Marsh Badge is called the Gold Badge. Sounds like somewhere in localization the names got mixed up. It may have even been that the poor programmer in charge of changing the in-game text goofed.
That is probably the best reason -- the two are stored right next to each other, I think. been ages since I was in the RGBY code, though...

Golduck was the original name (GORUDAKKU), and dispite not being a Psychic type, Psyduck does learn Confusion. I don't think either of those count as mistakes, no matter how much we fans might like to think they were -- Golbat and Goldeen aren't gold either.
