As the person who commissioned this, I should say that the character on the screen is in fact a squirrel (white tail-tip is missing), and this image isn't the fixed one I have. Hopefully the artist will put up the fixed version soon

If you're using the second tutorial (Zko's method) in photoshop, you can use the 'soft brush' as an eraser too. Select the eraser tool, and choose the soft brush like how you would using the brush tool (only make the brush smaller than the brush you used to make the glow). Then you can 'erase' the color that's hiding the iris while keeping the outer glow. You can experiment with the opacity level of the erase too if you still want to keep some colors on the iris. You'd also need to have the glow on a separate layer from the very beginning so you don't also erase the eye.
If this is too confusing for you I can try to add in some pictures ><

I had her pegged as a tragic character from the get-go (the Achilles reference didn't even occur to me initially), and as soon as Ozpin selected her to inherent the Fall Maiden's power that somehow cemented the fact that she was going to die. There's something about overpowered secondary characters that makes them easy targets for the body count so that the less-experienced protagonists can have a chance to step up. But knowing somehow made her inevitable death that much more heartbreaking. Plus she's probably the character I most empathized with, so that probably had a lot to do with it.
