Pyra and Mythra, the blades of the Aegis, were both immensely powerful and easy to control thanks to being blades, making them prime early targets. It was simple to awaken them before anyone else could, and then take their souls while they couldn't resist. With the power of the Aegis at his disposal, it was a simple matter to split the drone into two bodies, and even awaken the embodiment of the Aegis' power as Pneuma, adding her to the drone lineup as well.
