I very much agree with the third point. It always makes me cringe when, in some show or movie, a character who doesn't have any knowledge of hypnosis uses a pocket watch or a pendulum that isn't magical, nor high-tech, the "induction" amounts to three words, and yet the victim becomes completely mind controlled.
