This is done for semi-outdated cultural reasons that have evolved into their own perversion over time.

The way some of Asia and Japan in particular sees sexuality is a strange mix of judging shame-fest and liberated perversion, and you cannot have one without seeing at least the shadow of the other.
It doesn't take a genius to see how one might find Mind Control fetish in particular shameful - that's something we all feel when we go overboard with it.
The weird flesh-blob man, a caricature of an overweight person exaggerated specifically for their own human ugliness is what happens when a subset of our community takes that shame to the level of a complex.

Most of us naturally feel at least decently attractive(because, most of us Are, that's what being average Is), and want characters in our sex stories to be That or Better so we can enjoy identifying with them.

But if you feel like a disgusting human being, and believe pretending otherwise is lying to yourself, then the whole thing turns on its head. Approachable main characters seem unrealistic to a person who feels Terrible about liking these things.

"What is this attractive man with social skills and charisma doing, bewitching beautiful, wholesome ladies with his mind magic? He could just date them normally. He isn't a degenerate piece of trash, like me."

See, the logic entirely skips the step where the taking of control is what's attractive about the whole thing - that requires self-examination you don't partake in when you are already convinced you are the worst. It's instead boiled down to the idea that they want to have sex, and when you chose these means to that end, you are out of all acceptable options.

They don't think they can be attractive or even just Okay if you like mind control. It's too shameful, in their minds, for a person who "has other options" to "sink so low".
Therefore, goes the self-defeating logic, they, who are interested in it, must be such a lowly person themselves.

The very act of accepting these desires, to the point where they seek out their fulfillment, combined with their belief that it makes them unworthy of affection, want the characters who are stand-ins for them to look and behave in a way they see themselves.

In reality, they are just normal pervs like the rest of us. In their heads, their flaws exaggerated and innocent fantasies seen as inherently guilty pleasure, a Normal person is just not representative of them anymore. They need gross fucks like those.

So artists cope by feeding into the complex and creating representations of how the readers see themselves on the inside. Whether they Should(I think not) is another matter entirely.

I talked to some artists. So, I'd say somewhere between research and assumptions in credibility. Their incidental personal experience doesn't Have to be representative of the whole, but I found it lines up.

No. No we can not. This is the hypnohub home of several thousand+ posts of mind control and mind control adjacent pornography. And home to a bizarrely nice community of artists and those who appreciate said artist’s work. You will find the weirdest bits of kindness and unconditional support from these comments. There is also the occasional bits of philosophy and flame wars in miniature over nerdy details no one should notice. Admittedly we also use hypnohub for what it was meant for.
