In fairness, I guess it was Kimberly's hubris/"fuck it" attitude to that got her mind controlled, since she went straight to Drakkon.

And thus began a very long and tumultuous journey to eventually trying to atone for... being mind controlled.

well, in her defense, Lord Drakkon was once Tommy. after all, Tomberly is the most well-known Power Ranger ship. heck, Jason David Frank and Amy Jo Johnson appeared in the reboot movie together.

I mean, even still, kind of a dumb idea going straight to the guy with two sets of Ranger powers fused together and the magic Rita with no powers of your own and a regular bow. It was pretty obviously going to end poorly.

Hey I haven't read these, but I guess she was hoping to bring him to his senses

As you can see in the first panel, ol' Drakkon has got an arrow in the left side (heart side) of his chest and arrow impaled in throne as well as a third off-panel. Would've caught the one in his chest like the first one Kim fired at him had he not been busy brainwashing her. Long story short, Kim was not the one hoping to end their confrontation without bloodshed. Drakkon was. He was hoping he could convince Kim to join him, akin to Vader and Luke. Unfortunately for him, Kim was there to kill him. Strange how killing two of the Rangers, slowly bringing the deaths of more of Kim's friends, and just being a general fascist dictator with a Ranger-powered army has made Kim utterly despise him (correctly) as irredeemable. Fortunately for Drakkon, he's learned Rita's magic, including mind control. So, Kim was going to join him, willingly or unwillingly.
Oh yeah, and Kim and Drakkon never dated. Drakkon may be Tommy, but his timeline diverged from the TV (well, technically comic) timeline at the end of Green with Evil, with him going back to Rita rather than the Rangers. So, really, for Kim, Drakkon has never been a friend and comrade, just an adversary who had once been a classmate. They knew each other, but they were never super close friends or dating.
