I didn't know about the "Jill sandwich"meme before I was commissioned to do this, because I don't play Resident Evil and am hopelessly behind on meme culture... but once I'd Googled it, it made sense.
(For those not in the know: In the original version of Resident Evil 3, Jill Valentine is almost squashed flat by a "descending ceiling" death trap. She is rescued by her partner Barry, who in a cutscene utters the most hilariously cringy line; "That was too close! You were almost a Jill sandwich!" And so of course the Jill sandwich became a meme among fans.)
So this one's kind of a first for me because it hinges on two things I usually don't like doing... meme-referencing humour and the "before/after" hypno pic.
You might have noticed that in my comics and stories I don't do a lot of reference jokes. My take on it is that if something's only funny because it reminds you of something else, then it probably isn't that funny to begin with... and if the audience doesn't get the reference, that means you're just annoying and confusing them. It's not that I won't ever slip in some references or inside jokes in a comic or story, but I wouldn't make the story or the joke hinge entirely on the references.
When it comes to the "before/after" hypno pics, they're usually a little too on the nose for me. Especially if the entire point is to go from "no, I won't be hypnotized!" to "yes, master,
I'm hypnotized now." That's a little predictable... plus, it's waayy too easy for those pics to slide into "bitch deserved it" territory, which I've mentioned elsewhere I don't like much.
So the idea for this pic at first glance seemed like something I wouldn't want to do... but of course, I was paid to do it, and besides... well, in this case I thought it was actually kind of adorable. It was so ridiculous it just became cute. The meme reference wasn't that obnoxious, and there was no trace of "bitch deserved it" in the suggested dialogue. So I agreed to do it... and frankly I'm pretty happy with the results!
Moral of the story: sometimes it's good to move out of your comfort zone a little.

" TAKE A LOOK AT THIS!"
*looks*
Somehow this makes less sense in context.
Doesn't take away from it, but yeah.
It does? Huh. I must not be explaining things very well.
You must love the sandwich.
You must serve the sandwich.
You must become the sandwich.
Long as you don't eat me. ^_^ I wouldn't taste good... too fatty.
Ah, the master of unlocking.
But unlocking what, is the question. ^_^
