Always with the treble clefs! Why can't the artists take advantage of the fact that the bass-clef is already entirely spiral-shaped and the fact that bass audio is much more hypnotic than treble sound?

Heh, come to think of it, I suppose it does look kinda like a frowny emoticon.

I never considered it within text. I played the tuba (the emperor of brass instruments) and the trombone (the prince of brass instruments) all throughout high school, and have only seen the bass clef on the staff (the horizontal lines that mark pitch).

The center of the spiral is centered on the tuning note, and the two vertical dots are indicate one half-step above and below the tuning note of the clef. The tuning note is a common note all instruments that play in the bass clef register are able to play in the "open position" (eg on a standup bass it requires no finger position on the F string, and on the tuba requires no valves to be pushed, and on the trombone the slide is in position zero (all the way in, with the slide hand closest to the face.))
