it's a slur?? i mean i certainly would never use it to refer to anyone irl but i just thought it was overly antiquated. didn't know, damn. sorry. i mostly was using it because it struck me as a very "porn thumbnail" way to call someone asian (similar to how the adjective "ebony" is sometimes used)

well making mistakes is how we learn i guess. thanks for the heads-up

edit: though i guess the way most nsfw content almost universally refers to transgender people should maybe have tipped me off that they are not void of slurs

It depends. Is 'Occident' also a slur to you? It was how the West referred to itself. 'Orient' for the East, 'Occident' for the West.

i mean, i don't think that's entirely fair. for one thing the word a group uses to refer to itself is a vastly different situation than a word a group uses to refer to a different group. and more importantly usage matters much more than etymology particularly in situations like these. negro and blanco are both just names of colors but one clearly has much more baggage

not even really defending the position of whether or not its a slur because im pretty out of my league here but i just dont think this is a good reason to say it isnt
