yeah alot of hypno manga's show ugly people with beautiful women because its this outdated thing with manga's where they think the only reason you'd have too use hypnosis is if you literally have no hope of ever coming close too somebody

Not "you" specifically, but the bigger the gap between something the victim wouldn't do, the more erotic it can get for people. There are some hypno mangas where the childhood friend that is in love with the MC gets hypnotized, but thats more about the own insecurities of the MC. Therefore, letting the victim do wacky things she wouldn't e.g. fucking someone she despises (some of the bully mc's come to mind as an extra revenge plot) does, for a large amount of people, contribute to it being sexy - even though the MC is butt ugly. It's more "realistic" for someone like that to use these methods and even though we all know that hypnosis like that is bullshit and does not exist, mangaka try going the realims route from time to time by going into specifics how things work as a baseline.

Yeah, I don't think it's so much an issue of "authors think you need hypnosis," and more a case of the author really leaning into the darker side of hypnosis stuff. She hates this guy, truly despises him. With fair reason too, he's an awful person. So the "ugly bastard" stuff here is mostly about creating a nightmare scenario for the women.
