Gainax, the people who made Gurren Lagann DID say she was 14...by the calender that people were using while living underground. Due to a lack of sunlight, and the complete death of human civilization, the length of the year increased. So while she IS 14, that age would probably transate to late teens by our standards. If that doesn't do it, there's a time skip in the second half of the series putting her in her 20s.
