she's one of the first character's introduced after the PC-98 era. also she was one of the main characters for a while

Nope, she's actually only a major supporting character at best and she appeared in the PC98 era as well, but as a child. Alice has always been popular but a 3d model of hers managed to shoot her up to the top ranks when it was introduced. As for Alice herself, she has a memorable relationship (platonically) with both Reimu and Marisa (fun fact, before they teamed up in the eigth game, ReimuXAlice was the leading ship.) She hasn't been used much since she appeared in the grounded fighters and as Marisa's aid in 11. Otherwise, guess people just like the doll moftif, puppeters are fun in the ironic sense for hypnosis...

Also, at least 50 they say... there's over 190.

A bit overkill isn’t it? Someone must really love anime girls, because even Sailor Moon had less than 100 female characters in it I’m pretty sure

No, not really? There's 18 mainline games (along with that there's a lot of spinoffs, manga and even the ost collection introduces a pair of characters) and each game om average introduces 7 characters give or take. Touhou is the one of the biggest passion projects in the world, since a lot of the mainline games are one man projects (also the designs in the actual games are a lot less lewd like no lewdness at all), besides it only serves to make the world actually feel expansive which I like.

Where does lewdness come from on these sites anyways? For me I assume they like the character and I want to see Porn of them

First of all, yeah Bullet Hell is a genre of game that exists in a lot of forms, even though I'm mostly interested in Touhou.

Secondly, suppose it's just that Touhou has lots of different girls and people enjoy making lewd stuff out of the designs since even if ZUN art is ZUN art, the designs still are very creative or have a lot of charm to them, plus the personailty they have is good for making characters likeable enough to lewd.
