Curse of the curly/wavy hair i guess XD
As much of a hassle drawing it as living with it in real life.

Drawing hair as either "clumps" or imagining it as one big mass with some strange fluffy texture on top always helped me.

I think you kind of nailed it actually. The frustration was worth it i guess ^^
