I noticed that there wasn't a lot of Digimon (especially the more mature ladies from the games) on this site and since I'm on a bit of a "Digi-bender", I thought I'd do a manip of Rina, Nokia, and Yuuko. I did try to make a gif, but I couldn't get the eyes to rotate right. I hope you all like it and it inspires some other works staring these three ;-)

It’s partially because while Digimon is big, it ended up playing second fiddle to Pokémon. Not to mention like Pokémon it had to deal with issues regarding the development and release of the dub/sub. I don’t think we even got a televised release of Hunter’s, it’s just on Crunchyroll. Not to mention game wise we only had a small number of games in recent years, Cyber Sleuth, Hacker’s Memory, and the complete edition that bundled them. The last Digimon game before that was for the Play Station handheld, technically speaking there’s also a mobile game, but it has such terrible marketing that I only discovered it existed because it was mentioned in a fanfic.

Not to mention, unlike Pokémon, Digimon has a functionally limited roster to choose from. Pokémon has 56 gym leaders, 24ish elite 4 members and 16+ important named characters that don’t fit into the other categories, if we limit that list to just females it would shrink a lot but you get the idea.

Compare this to Digimon, which is a comparative sausage fest, we had 3 in Adventure (5 if you include Lillymon, and Angewomon), not counting parents, 1 more in 02 (with a handful of 1 episode and gone digidestined during the world tour), 2 in Tamers (Maybe getting as high as 5 if you include Antylamon, Susie, and Renamon). 2 in Frontier ( 4 if you count Ophanimon and that one girl who hung out with Tommy’s bullies) 3 main ones in Data Squad (more if you include Marcus’s mom and Lilamon/Rosemon and maybe the little sister) 4 in Fusion (Nene, Angie, Lilithmon, Beastmon) I haven’t seen Hunters so I can’t really comment

Now…I realize I’ve kind of inflated Pokémon’s numbers and undersold Digimon’s. But let me ask something in return, can you give me a solid, interesting personality for most of the Digimon characters ? I can tell you something about almost every female gym leader/elite 4 member, whereas most of the time Digimon tends to overlook the would be Waifus. What can you tell me about the girls with the PawnChessmon in Datasquad? How about Ophanimon from Frontier? We know that they exist and we know what they do, and they even are all at the bare minimum anime attractive, but by the numbers Pokémon’s got quantity with some solid quality, while Digimon is lacking in quantity and only has a few standout examples of quality. End result is lack of interest in Digimon which means lack of fan produced goods.

I’m not saying that there isn’t any, just saying there’s not as much of it as it could be. Which is a shame, cause I like both Pokémon and Digimon as franchises and stories.

Pokémon is about exploring this wonderful world we all share, while gathering the strength to achieve your dreams, or at the bare minimum fight for them.

Digimon has always been about self reflection and through that self improvement. Finding the strength of one’s personal character

And I love both of these ideals, I’m just sad that one gets overlooked and that the two fandoms are always one comment away from trying to nuclear flame war the other into ashes.

TL;DR

That just be the way it is sometimes because distribution for Digimon is/was weird

woah! did not expect that much of a response. but i do agree with alot of what you said though. I'm
a huge Digimon fan too (since the late 90s and still to this day). there's also a pretty loyal fanbase on DeviantArt and on this place's sister sites as well. also, there's a YouTube channel i watch called Billiam that has a whole retro spective on the digimon anime upto tri. I'm glad you like the pic and amazed at your reaction. thank you.
