There is something so adorably charming about the sincerity of Sailor Moon. Probably why I liked it so much as a kid despite me not being the target audience.

What is with that pronunciation of his name though? Like...I was always under the impression his name was Diamond. But in japanese they just spell it phonetically, but here they pronounce it...like Demand? God I just...can't get into the viz dub.

Anyway, this has always been a classic scene!

His name is Demande; it was never Diamond. DiC changed his name in their dub, like they did to most characters in their dub. Given that the Viz release exists, and is the defacto English version now, we should probably change his tag to prince_demande to get away from the DiC name. We could also start using the Sailors' real names in tags.

Yesw but to be fair it would be pronounced the same way within japanese. And not to mention he is affiliated with other jewel based named characters. Rubeus, Saphir, Esmeraude, it makes sense...

But I can't get over he's voiced by Matt Mercer :D

Actually, no. His name is written as in Japanese; "de-ma-n-do." If it were meant to be pronounced like diamond, it would be written as ; "dai-ya-mo-n-do." The Viz pronunciation is correct.

All the members of the Black Moon Clan have names that are close to jewel names, but slightly off. Demande (diamond), Esmeraude (emerald), Saphir (sapphire), Rubeus (ruby).

Well, apparently the site doesn't like katakana, so my comment doesn't show it, but trust me that the katakana says "demando" and not "daiyamondo."

Anyway, I forgot to mention that, aside from the name difference, the old DiC dub ruins this scene. First, any hint of struggle from Usagi is edited out in the DiC version, they change Demande's command from "a kiss of allegiance" to simply "a vow of loyalty," and likewise, the part where Usagi falls to her knees and takes his hand to kiss it is also edited out.
