Was "Hypnosis" a psychic move in the game? I haven't played any in so long I can't be sure.

Hypnosis actually does work on Dark types despite being Psychic, since it's a status move. Same reason stuff like Swagger still works on Ghost types.

As far as I know the only status move that takes typing into account is Thunder Wave.

GameFreak hates electric types ;_; Though to be fair in RBY it was a hilariously broken move. Also if you consider Stealth Rocks status, that's another.

Too bad Synchronize doesn't work with sleep, otherwise this could have taken an interesting turn.
