I always assumed it was a play on the symbols for Mars and Venus being the same as the symbols for male and female, respectively.

Interesting. Is that just like an art insert, or do they actually become a couple in the manga?

Non official/never explained, but the mangaka loves bait that shipping. Even Rei is a self-proclaimed hater of men in the manga because of her traumas.
I don't like to ship tease, but the original manga is different to the old show and there is a lot of ambiguity with the sexuality of the characters (except Usagi).

Canon for the original manga was that all of the inner senshi were focused on serving Usagi and so never got involved with anyone else, which leaves the door open for inner-senshi-lez pairings but ultimately implies that they stay celibate for their loyalty to Moon.
And this is why the OG anime is more fun -w-

I know quite a long time ago, he decided he didn't enjoy or want to contribute to the hypnofetish scene anymore. But I can't recall if that means he ever actively put himself on this list or not.
So, just asking for curiosity's sake. (It's a shame because I do remember him saying he was specifically inspired by me and my art at one point, long ago, and that was actually really flattering)

Far be it from me to usually be the one to bring this up, seeing as I disapprove of half of the reasons people use the DNP list for.... but I can't recall, is BrokenTeapot on the DNP list or not?

No teapots not on the list.

Ah. Well I should be thankful for that, I did actually enjoy his work. It's a shame he hates it now and he stopped.

Yes. Didn't like it. And I find the purists utterly irritating.
For one thing all the villains were bland and interchangeable. Usagi was just a glorified self-insert/wish fullfilment character for Naoko. Her obsession with Mamoru was boring, and took over way to much of the storyline at the expense of many things, such as her friendship with the other Inners. Who were utterly redundant after the first arc, especially when the Outers came in (fuck you Labyrinth). They just existed as props to Usagi, and were fated to have no life outside of her.
