man, that 'Mighty Thor' stuff was really dumb. Thor is his name. like his real actual name. what if when Captain America gave Falcon the shield, he started going by Steve instead

It is not that dumb. In real life Caesar was a name, but after his death Augustus took it as a title. In Germanic languages we still use words derived from his name as the word for emperor, e.g. in Danish it is kejser, in German it is kaiser.
