If you gently hold a hen's head down with the tip of the beak touching the ground and then draw a line directly from their beak outwards, with chalk or a stick in the dirt, they will often remain frozen in that position for up to half an hour.

As far as I'm aware, no one really knows why this happens and it doesn't always work.
