Why not just use a card or a lacrima with those JP hypnosis characters in them?

Sort of? They have communication Lacrima that as far as I can tell are basically smart phones. They were developed with the help of Warren if I recall correctly, (Fairy Tails telepathy mage)

Yeah the communication lacrimas were more like crystal balls, the ft equivalent of a home phone. But Warren made them into cellphones
