The brain squid is too large to fit inside the victim's head through the ears, so the parasite uses its strong tentacles to open the victim's head and control the body directly through the spinal cord.
This type of parasite has an unusual ritual when the squid will force the victim to pull out its own brain and then place it in its own vagina. Presumably this is either their mating ritual or a way to mock their brainless victim.
