It's also the first name of the first man in space, but that's totally unrelated, as he was a Russian Cosmonaut named Yuri Gagarin, and I know of no reason to assume his name has any connection to Japan. Japan's first satellite, also named Yuri, is probably referencing the cosmonaut, rather than the flower or the lesbians.
