Artist Commentary:

Don't know if anyone remembers the fact that before working at the DHMC Parker used to be a Stage magician.

Also, if you ask him he'll emphasize that he was a stage magician and not a stage hypnotist, the same way he emphasizes that he's a therapist and not a hypnotherapist.

It was a fun few years of his life doing shows wherever he could find work, got really into it too lol. Had a corny stage name too, "The Mesmerising Pendulum Parker" ("The Mesmerizing PP" was also used a lot, but he took it in stride.) Had a whole costume, a pocket watch in his pocket, and a cane with an LED inside the orb that would make it glow "magically", also had a little speaker that would play a snap sound so he could "snap" even while wearing gloves. Also wore contact lenses on stage so people could stare into his eyes easier.

His stage persona was really over the top and a lot more energetic and goofy than normal Parker, which really gave him the opportunity to go loose. He also had an assistant that I still haven't figured out the name of, she isn't the girl in the picture if you were wondering. They had a close relationship back then.

The whole routine in this pic was that he calls someone from the crowd and takes off his gloves once they are onstage to show he isn't hiding anything. proceeds to do a quick induction saying her hands are gonna be stuck together, and it being Parker, it works, and then he goes "but we should probably let the crowd see what you see in your pretty little head, Dear" The he produces a piece of cloth from his sleeve and covers her stuck together outstretched hands.

He does a whole routine of telling her to visualize the ropes while he adjusts the cloth (he's just adjusting some trick ropes around her hands) and then with a snap he lifts them off and it looks like they suddenly appeared.

Then he directs her to a chair, does the whole crowd countdown you see in the picture, then when it reaches one, he'll swoop the hat over her face, and inside the hat is a little glow-in-the-dark prop that just says "SLEEP" and only she'll see it and she'll fall asleep in the chair.

While she's in a trance he tells her that the stuck hands suggestion is now gone, then looks to the crowd saying something about the ropes still on her wrists. covers them with the cloth again. Then does some vague magical gesturing, and asks her to hold his cane for him, and she sleepy removes her hand from the cloth, no ropes on her hands, and holds the cane as Parker returns to the whole charade of doing magical gestures to the piece of cloth, pretending to not notice that she's untied.

He asks for his cane back saying "That should do it..." and she puts her hands back under the cloth (She's still pretty out of it at this point) Parker does some last-minute adjusting and he lifts the cloth with a flourish...

And the ropes are still there around her wrists (They are trick ropes, this lore blurb is going on for too long I'm not explaining it) he goes "FUCK" and throws the cloth on again and subtly removes the ropes and then removes the cloth and now she's untied. TADA!

And then he wakes her up and tells her to do a bow and the show keeps going with more tricks, that I don't have the brainpower to come up with.

But yeah that's what he used to do. He still has the costume in his apartment, and he'll occasionally break it out if Penny wants a private show~

But yeah, he's left that part of his life behind, he enjoyed his time but honestly, wanted a more stable and relaxing (debatable) job, so he pivoted.
