I feel like this shouldn't count, because this is a direct reference to a level of corruption Samus reaches in the game. She still maintains her being in this state.

Is this from Other M? Or Prime?

Prime, phazon doesn't exist in other m.

Though to mindwipe I'd just like to say that while I see your point, I still think there is enough hints of an altered mind state for it to count.

I can't stop seeing a goofy robot face in the glowing ovals on her shoulder part and the highlight on the upper arm.

Minor irk: It exist in Other M because Prime happened before it. It's just not present.

Also, I agree, what is controller her, exactly?
And how?

Don't want to make an argument out of other m, just going to say that game apparently exists in a separate continuity according to the writer for other m.

And with that out of the way, phazon works as a corrupting substance that warps the minds and bodies of it's victims, typically turning them more violent and easily manipulated by powerful entities like dark samus.

I was quite disappointed the phazon didn't affect Samus mentally. It corrupts the Space Pirates and the other three bounty hunters in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (which is the game this picture is from), but Samus is magically not affected? Physically, she is clearly becoming increasingly corrupted by the phazon as the game goes on, but no mental effects.
Years ago, when I played this game (and before I knew I had this fetish), I'd spend time wallowing in the phazon pools, imagining that the phazon was corrupting her mentally the same way it corrupts pretty much every other intelligent creature.
