Why...why are Fairy types being arbitrarily given hypnotic powers? It makes sense for Psychic and Ghost types, since Hypnosis is a Psychic type move, and most ghosts can learn it. But Fairies?

kek, only three ghosts can learn hypnosis xD by no means can "Most" learn it, also many fairy moves have connotations of manipulating their enemies, perhaps not in full blown psychic mind control, but they have the moves such as charm, sweet kiss and others, aswell as the things such as aromatic mist, which although not directly mind control, hypnotic gas is a thing you see here, plus since it relaxes those who listen to it, it's rather easy to attribute it to hypnosis where you literally make someone so relaxed that you are able to manipulate them.
Also this is a porn site, did you actually excpect decent logic? .w.

I'm not sure how it relates to pokemon, but in the world of folklore it was generally accepted that you called fairies, 'fair-ies' because they cheat so damn hard. It was sort of a combination of a joke and a prayer that you wouldn't catch their eye. Hypnosis would be on the shallow end of what they do in folk lore.

plus this particular fairy type is noted in pokedex " It emits a scent that enraptures those who smell it. This fragrance changes depending on what it has eaten."

Um...no. They're called "Fairies" because the original term was "Fair Folk" due to the fact they were always described as being unnaturally beautiful.

People! This arguing is irrelevant, since Shauna got brainwashed into a cute/sexy Furisode girl!

Also, folklore-wise, Fairies (or Fae) are known to be tricksters and use illusions or sorcery to enthrall unsuspecting humans. There are stories of children or travelers being kidnapped and turned into servants of Fae lords or ladies, becoming inhumanly beautiful in the process. A bit of that has translated over to the Fairy type, where many of their attacks or support abilities decrease attack and accuracy or inflict charm. Plus, Fairy type pokemon are weak to Steel types (a reflection of Fae being weak to pure iron in folktales).

Let's not forget that a favored 'mon that is on here is also Psychic/Fairy and uses Draining Kiss. :P

My entirely unbiased opinion is that we need more fae hypnosis.

Also, on the topic of fairies, the concept of them being referred to as the "fair folk" is rooted into the notorious mercurial nature of the fae and how they would talk offense for the slightest of things, so fair folk is a means of which to placate them in advance. It has a similar parallel to sayings like "speak of the devil and he appears" plus more modern repetitions of this belief in the likes of the Yellow King and Slenderman.

While fairies or elves are known for their supernatural glamor, that is far from a key defining quality of the fae, with many of them, particularly in the Unseelie court, being absolutely hideous and terrifying rather than enchanting, enough so that creatures such as banshees and dullahan have often been thought of as Undead rather than their fairy origins.

The more you know, ect ect.
