I don't think you can... and in fact I'm not sure why you would want to hide the child post. It just takes the place of one pic, after all.

I tested it a bit and it's just pretty much just unchecking the 'shown in index' option if you click 'edit' underneath the posts. The image won't be shown in the front page, but if you search its tags up you can still find the image.
