Well, considering the mechanics for yawn being a popping bubble that induces sleep (in the anime at least), it could technically be considered hypnosis?

I always thought of Yawn as the power of suggestion. Like, a Pokemon yawns and it makes its opponent so tired that it actually falls asleep.

Yeah, that's how I used to see it myself, the anime likes to toss in projectiles for most of its status attacks so it makes sense since they're pretty much not just standing around like it appears in the games themselves.

In the end though, I see it as a form of suggestion, just like hypnosis itself, only the effects aren't immediate.
