It is. It really honestly is. When you try to digest and understand 13 years and 7 games worth of content and lore in one sitting you're going to confuse yourself.
To explain the bit you're calling out:
Organization 13's original purpose was to gather 13 people who were worthy of housing fragments of Xehanort's heart, which would turn them into effective clones of him, and make them slaves to his will. The original 13 people gathered were Nobodies, beings without Hearts of their own, which made them theoretically perfect vessels. However there was so much infighting and rebellion, coupled with the fact Sora effortlessly destroyed half of them, that they failed to serve their purpose.
What has been dubbed the "True Organization 13" is the second attempt at pulling this off, using time travel to go behind the good guy's backs. And it seems to have worked, as they have a roster of 12 as of KH3D.

I called myself a KH nerd. Ridley said KH was incoherent, using codknight questioning which incarnation of Organization 13 this was as an example. I explained the difference.
I do like the implication you've given that I can't enjoy the art and explain the lore at the same time though.
