FEV renders those it infects sterile. It's major flaw is that it recognizes the gametes (sperm and eggs) as being damaged since they only half half of a strand of DNA, so it "repairs" them. As a result an FEV infected man cannot impregnate a woman and an FEV infected woman cannot be impregnated. The only known exception to this rule is Deathclaws.
